Jr. aka Pyrite Gun x Bwana Charlie

Since I do not name any of my sales foals I call Pye’s colt JR. If I name them I get to attached and that would be a bad thing. Last years Pye’s colt was called Little man even though he was not little;)

Jr was born live via the net on my cam. It was a little tence there for a bit he was huge and I was having a hard time getting him out. Pye foals like I would if i had a child. Ok I pushed it didn’t come out now you get it out. He was a straping colt. Great bone ect. He looked like a week old foal when he came out.

Now this colt is headed to the Oct sale at OBS. So his prepping will begin 60 days prior to the sale date. He is a Feb foal and will be weaned middle of July. That way I can get him over the omg where is my boob. If he looses any weight I can put it back on slowly. He is a smart foal. Learns quickly and has no problem trusting me. So he has been great to train so far. He loves to get fly sprayed, groom ect.. Baths we just started. His dam is a water junkie so she just stands there while i teach her foals what is going on. He is growing like a weed now. I look at him and he is just got that look in his eye. Not to mention he has the body to go with it;) i love when the foals are not nut cases and they can learn everything from me with ease.  When my foals get to the sales they are well behaved not DRUGED and just act very professional. That takes some time for them to learn. I never use any type of drugs to prep my horses. They are what they are. I know of some people who will pump there weanlings and yearlings full of steriods to make them look like a halter Quater horse. Umm hello people there Tb’s. They were not built or should not look like they are built like that.  It dose not make them sell any better. People are going to buy your horse if they like it. Simple as that. Real horseman or woman can see what there looking at. OK I’m ranting need to get off that subject and save that for another topic;)

Here is Jr at 3 weeks old. Not to shabby if I may say myself.

So I will update on his page so you can follow the process to a sale. This will be fun!

Remie

It all started in may of 06′. My mare Miss Mahogany aka Maggie had foaled at 11pm that night. When I was helping maggie get the foal out I was a bit in shock to see Remie’s color. One leg had allot of white the second leg did too. Then i saw her face. Holly white i said;) Then I was like OMG it’s a chestnut. Now Maggie has had one other foal for me that is a full brother to Remie his name is Max. When Max was born he looked just like maggie bay with a star. So if you could see my face when Remie came out it was priceless.

I knew I was going to raise her and race her myself. She was special. She looked nothing like what I thought was going to get. She was very smart and trusting as a foal but she would kick your ass if she thought you did not know what you were doing.;) She moved with such power yet with grace. She was independent and strong willed but would give you her whole heart if she trusted you. Thank God she trusted me.

People would come out to see her. Friends, pinhookers, trainers ect.. They loved her. All would say you might have something special there. I would say I know I do. So the journey of the 2 of us started. Since I had only one foal that year she would depend on me to play with her. I would go out to the pasture at dusk and say to her. Ok Remie ready to go to the derby… Ready set Go!!! She would take off as fast as she could do a lap and stand there like is that all you got. Watch I can go again. It was the best stuff ever watching her do that. It would take all my stress away and I could sit there and dream. What is also special about Remie is she is old school bred. Most people in my bizs would look at her and say holly cow nice filly but then look at her pedigree and say where is all the black type? Now do not get me wrong she has some BT in her pedigree but it’s far back in there mind. What she dose have is SOUND hard knocking runners that made allot of money. Most of her pedigree would run till they were 6 or 7. In todays world of Tb’s that is unheard of.

She always takes everything is stride. I was very careful of who I would train her. She is the type of filly that if she was to get in the wrong hands they would either break her down or she would get so mad she would give up. So I choose to stick her with the trainers that have her full brother. They are taking it slow with that colt and that is what I wanted to do with her. Do not push her so young that she breaks down. I would have to go for blood if that happends. Remie is 2 in May and she is doing great. She is built like a tank. She loves my trainers and they love her. It’s a win win game here.

What a pretty day

Well it seems I have gotten over my hissy fit from yesterday. Sometimes you just have to let things go when you have no control over them. It did take me a long time to get over the mare story. But I was able to take my anger out on mowing the farm. Mow I did;) I must say mowing to me lets me just stop and think and just keep going. Now my grass is happy and so are my horses;)

Today I am going to make up to more cats on the blog. One for My 2 yr old in training. She is not going to a sale she will go to the track. Second will be for Pye’s colt that will go to the Oct weanling sale. I just need to get some more stuff done on the farm before I tackle those 2 today. It should be fun though. Tracking there training and so forth.

I got a email from someone yesterday saying that they had read my blog. They were impressed about the breeding a Tb topic. How I kept it real and not all times was it rainbows and butterfly’s. So really that is why I have started this blog. Breeding Tb’s Racing them and prepping them is not for the faint of heart and here I will tell the real truth about all that goes on behind the scenes. But please know the reason I am telling the “real” truth is maybe there will be some change out there one day. I love my horses. I love this breed. I am thankful from the bottom of my heart that there are people out there like Canter http://www.canterusa.org/ ok now I cannot find the add a link button so there is there whole link. Please take the time to donate and support them. Remember Pye came from them. Well she came from a trainer that was listed on there site and i bought her. Same thing;) They also love this breed and love the off the track horses that give it there all and they give them a new job.

Off to get some work done. Until this afternoon…

Ugg some people

This morning i heard news of a mare that was the sweetest smartest mare ever. I will give the cliff notes version of this story since I worked for thease people for a long time and sometimes the big people in this game of breeding and racing Tb’s make  me really want to vomit!

Mare had a broken hip. Mare could get around but in my opinion should of never been breed. Now you know in the Tb biz everything has to be live cover. So you guess how the mare was bred with a flippin broken hip. Anyway mare lost foal last year. They tried to do a C section did not work out so well. Mare lived. I said please do not breed her back. Just let her be a happy pasture horse somewhere for someone. I was told to buck up this is the bizs and I better stop carring so much if I wanted to stay in the game. Mare was bred back last year again you tell me how she was bred live cover….. Mare had foal the other day. They lost the foal AGAIN. Mare lived but now she had lost to foals for them and now is worth nothing to them so they put her down.

WTF.. It kills me that some of the “BIG” people in this game can just look at them like they are money all the time. She got infoal twice did her job. They are the dumbshits that wanted a foal out of mare that yes she had a good pedigree but was it worth her life? I think not. Now maybe that is why they have the 20 million dollar farm and the crews of people working for them and the persona that they care about there horses. Whatever I will keep my 8 ac sweet farm, loved mares and foals and maybe one day I will see them in the winner circle and say…. Karma is a bitch!

Breeding a TB

Here i will be bloging about the process of breeding and waiting and raising a Tb. The process seems like it takes forever. You have to find the right mare worthy of breeding or worthy of spending your money on. To me I look for diffrent things in a mare to breed then most Tb breeders. In my group. I have 2 mares that are complety diffrent. 1has what we call allot of comerical in her pedigree. The other has what i like to call old school pedigree.

The first mare has allot of black type in her pedigree. That means she has stakes places winners in there. Her mother was a stakes place winner and did very well for herself. This family has done very well. So hince why she is a comerical mare. All of her  foals will go to the sales as weanlings unless I think they will sell better as a yearling. This is how i support the other mare I have that has no comerical in her pedigree but has some hard knocking runners in there. The second mare is what we call breed to race. That means all of foals will go to training and I have to support everyone unless they are sold before hand. Most Tb breeders hate to take chances on mares like this since they do not see a return quick enough. I have faith in this mare so I am willing to put it on the line for her till she proves me wrong.

It takes 320 to 350 days waiting on your foal. You spend mths picking the best stallion for your mare. The whole time praying to God you made the right choice. When the foal hits the ground the stress is not over by any means. You start juding the foal as soon as it hits the ground. Poor thing judged from there first steps. I like to judge them hard at 3 days, 3 weeks and 3 mths. Generally at those times I get what i am going to get in the foal. They will do allot of changing but you get the best idea of what you have. Now your job is to keep them alive and teach them everything you can till they either sell or go to the trainers.

Breeding Tb’s is not for the faint of heart. The hard work, money and mental stress is enough to put anyone over the edge. But when you see that mare give birth and all your hard work pays off. It’s the best feeling in the world:)

She will stay with those babies till I ask her to come on let’s go I know you have to go;) I had my Friend Merrie come over yesterday. She wanted to take a look at the famus Memu kittens. She was like OMG there huge. I have never had kittens as you can tell. Who would blog about there barn cat having a litter but me:) But hey that is what makes me.. me..

They still look like little rats to me. Very cute little rats and very colorful. But still not like those cute pics you always get forward to you by 1000 people with all the cute pics of kittens saying stupid crap but makes you laugh. Nope mine just lay in a clump or sucking the life out of my Memu.

Memu on lock down

ok first there is no spell check on here. You know me I can not spell worth a crap;) But they say it will be back soon. So with that said sorry for any spelling mishaps.

Ohhh memu… Well she finally came out this morning. She never left her babies for over 24 hrs. She also would not eat or drink. I think she was just concern over leaving them she would not move. So last night I had enough. I had her water bowl from the barn and had put food in it. I also had a new bowl that I had put fresh water in for her. She just would not touch the water but if I hand fed her she would eat.  I swear even my barn cat is high maintence;) So about 11:30 last night I was feeding her and said to myself… If I put some water with her food and she eats it at least she can get some water that way. Sure enough she drank the crap out of it. So then now were at midnight I go back out to the barn grab her food dish bring that back some food for her and do the switch a roo. Water back in the old dish food in her normal dish. She looked at me as to say..” About flipping time” So now I can sleep knowing she is drinking and eating. But you know I can’t really sleep yet. She has not gone potty since the night before and that was at 7pm. You know she has to go. I tryed everything. Look Memu this litter box is just FAB. She said NOPE! Look Memu mommy will play in it come play with me. She said NOPE! 1:30am I said screw it. Going to bed God speed on the bladder Memu.;)

This morning I awoke to thinking hmm wonder if she ate or drank last night. I nver heard the babies squeek. That would be they are sucking the life out of her and have not let go of the milk bar since they came out. Anyway get up go take a peek and she was so happy to see me. I told her going to feed the horses be back and we will see if you can go potty then. So off I went to feed the beasts. Come back and she came out of her hole! I was so happy.. Do you want to come out I said. She was out the door before I could even get the thing out of my mouth. She walks over to a tree and does her dooty.. Yea Memu.. Then she walks over to the middle of a pasture and heads kind of to the barn stops half way there and just sat there. I took the time to take some pics of the babies. I looked outside and hear she came. She came in right to the babies picked one up and was leaving right out the door with one. I said OHH NOO you don’t! Your on lock down there miss kitty and no out side with them babies. We had to come to terms on that one. In other owrds I grab the babie out of her mouth and took it back to the other 3. She came right with like ohh lady you have no idea. I said yes I do and you will not take them outside to the barn. A hawk or snake or god knows what will take your babies and I will freak out. You know Ashley freaking out is never a good thing;) So she calmly laid back down with her babies and all was good again. Silly flippin cat!

Memu had her babies!

First I am all jacked up on coffee. I have been up since 3:30am. So here is how my night went down;)

We had some pretty bad storms all night here and most of the day yesterday. So I made sure the horses were all tucked in and happy early. Memu was more clingy to me yesterday. She is kind of like a dog though. She follows me everywhere and watches me clean every stall. So I was walking back to my house and she was running after me mewoing the whole way. I was like ok Memu are you comming in tonight. She was like yep momma I am. So in she came. She went straight for my couch. She can get under it and there is some storage area there. I have been thinking if she dose have her babies in my house she would have them under there since that is where she will go every time she comes in. But she always comes out once I settle into bed and gets in with me and sleeps the whole night. So last night she did just that straight for the couch then after about a hour came out and went to sleep with me on my bed. She was so funny she would lay there upside down all belly and I would talk the babies and tell them come out little ones I want to see you. I would poke them in her belly and they would kick me back. I had been reading on the net yesterday what to look for when a cat gose into labor. The one thing they said was there temp would drop to 95′ to 97′ So you know me I had to take her temp yesterday and it was at 97′. Let me tell you.. Memu was not to happy about me sticking a thermonter up her booty.

So any who.. I was up with her till about 1:30am watchinig whatever on tv. She was still sleeping curled up with me. So I must of fell asleep soon after. About 3:30am I heard a squeak! I thought to myself is that the tv? I muted it.. Nope not the tv. So I ran to the couch looked under and there she was having babies! She looked at like ohh momma help me.. Of course she had 2 out and they were still very wet. So I grabbed my phone and called melody;) Poor mel she gets all my calls when something is happening here at the farm. Thank god she is 3 hrs behind me, hahahha Melosy was like is that all she had I said yes I think she is done. Mel say’s don’t freak her out and let her chill. I said ok I will call you back. So i went back to see and she was having one more. Now foaling out horses is NOTHING like watching a cat have birth. EWWWW is all I can say.. It came out and she took the sac off I had to hold myself back from doing that. lol Then her plecnta came. OK that is super ewww she ate it. I was like ok now i shall puke.. I turned my head for all of that nastyness. Really I was going to puke. I guess I’m not so good with the eating of that. I would never make it in the wild;)

Once she was done with that I was like ok back to awwww I love you Memu I loveeee your babies… She was looking at me like thank freaking God this is over.. She is beeing a great mom. She has not left them at all. i gave her food and water under the couch. I found a old baking pan for a litter box since I do not have one and I am thinking she will need it since she is in here;) Here are some pics of the little muffins a couple hours old.

Oh I almost forgot 1 is all black like Memu. 1 is gray and white and 1 is black and white. I will get more pics when you can see them better.

Memu the barn cat

Hmm… Watching her be prego is almost as bad as waiting for one of my mares to foal. I have gone back and looked at posts when she was doing the kitty Boom Boom on cam. She started that Feb 11. So that would put her at 53 days. From I can find on the net. They go 54 to 60 days. Hahaha That cracks me up watch I have to sit hear and waite to the last day;) Just like a mare. So here are some pics when I first started taking some of her.

As you can see in this pic she is not big at all. Just a sweet protector of the barn! Now as you can see from the following pics taken today. She is huge. She has started to lick the crap out of her little nipps and just groom herself. Now I know most of you are thinking .. man It’s just a cat. Well in my world it’s my sweet Memu and she will be getting spaid as soon as her kittens are weaned;) She will now have her own categories link to the left. Check updates on there for my little girl:)

Foals and spring time

Since I have to feed at Merrie’s farm this weekend so she can go to a show. I was thinking.. Spring time and foals. I love this time of year. Driving to Merrie’s farm there are about 4 Tb farms on the way. This morning they had bunches of babies out with there moms. I wish I had my camera with me they were so sweet in the pasture.

I always look at them and think that one could be the next big horse. That one could be the next big jumper or hunter or just someones love bug. We know not all the foals will make it to the track and if they do will not last to long. But there are always other great things they can do. There is a link on the right side to a Tb that has come off the track and there retraining him. It’s a great blog. So please go check it out if you have time;)

Well i am still sick so time for me to take some more cough meds and take a nap.

~~Ashley~~
